We’re keeping our fingers crossed for fine weather on Saturday 1st June – a big day for the Valley.
The Governor of NSW, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir, AC CVO has three official duties to perform in the Valley that day.
Firstly, Her Excellency will perform the official opening for the Kew-Y-Ahn Bell Rock Heritage Trail, then the Kew – Y – Ahn Aboriginal Gallery commencing at 11.00am at the former Post Office in the Hartley Historic Site, (opposite the Court House), to commemorate the Bicentennial of the first crossing of the Blue Mountains by Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth in 1813.
The walking track has been constructed from the rear of the former Post Office to the granite tor overlooking the village, where visitors to the site will enjoy a unique view of the village, be able to see Mt Blaxland and contemplate on 40,000 years of human endeavour in the Hartley Valley.
The Art Gallery has been established in the former Farmers Inn and is a joint venture between National Parks & Wildlife Service Office of Environment & Heritage, Heritage Division, and Arts Out West and has been established specifically to promote the commercial sale of Indigenous Artists living in the Central West.
A time capsule organised by the Hartley Advisory Committee will also be sealed by the Her Excellency on the day.
At 12 noon, the Governor will arrive at the Old Hartley School and from 12 noon until 1pm, Her Excellency will officiate at the opening ceremony of the Exhibition curated by local historian, Joan Kent, A Moment in Time in the Hartley Community Hall.
Everyone is welcome to attend these ceremonies and be a part of history in the making in Hartley.
There are also some photos from the excellent Music Markets and Plane Spotting Day at the Old Hartley School under the Hartley Rocks banner.
The Lithgow Mercury certainly agrees that the Governor’s visit to Hartley was a very auspicious day.
